General Township Information

Yard Waste Disposal Site

This site is for the personal use of township residents to dispose of yard waste from their Laketon Township residence ONLY. 

NO contractors are permitted to use the site.

A resident wishing to use the site must purchase a $15.00 Yard Waste Card each year.  No one will be permitted to use the site until a  yard waste card is purchased.  The site is located behind the township hall on Green Creek Rd.  

An attendant is on site to verify residency and will ask to see your driver's license and yard waste card.  Thank you for your cooperation in providing proof of your Laketon Township Residency each and every time you visit/use the site.  

Hours of Operation:

All dates and hours of operation are "WEATHER PERMITTING".  The site MAY be CLOSED on days it is scheduled to be open if inclement weather dictates.  

Spring/Summer Hours:
Exact dates vary a bit from year to year, but typically opens each year on or near April 1st and operates on these hours until the fall hours begin in Mid-October: 
FOR 2017 - site is scheduled to open for spring/summer hours on Tuesday 04/04/2017

Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm


Fall Hours :
Exact dates vary a bit from year to year, but from Mid-October through the end of November (excluding Thanksgiving Day):  FOR 2017 - fall hours are scheduled to begin on 10/08/2017 and close for the season on 11/26/2017.

Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays     10:00 am to 7:00 pm
Sundays from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm 

AFTER the site closes for the season and ONLY during the months of December, January, February and March (when there are NO scheduled operating hours in effect), a key may be signed out to residents during regular business hours Monday thru Friday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm (excluding holidays) as long as weather permits the site to be accessed safely.  The site is not maintained during the winter months and snow and ice may often prevent entry. 
THE KEY WILL NOT BE ISSUED WHEN THERE ARE SCHEDULED OPERATING HOURS IN EFFECT!

 Accepted Materials:
  • Grass clippings - can be brought loose or in paper bags. Plastic bags must be emptied and removed from the site.
  • Leaves - can be brought loose or in paper bags. Plastic bags must be emptied and removed from the site.
  • Brush up to three (3) inches in diameter.
  • Other yard/garden waste - but nothing over 3 inches in diameter, no stumps and no root balls.
Muskegon County Solid Waste Disposal Site

Laketon Township currently provides "dump cards" to be used at the Muskegon County Solid Waste site on Apple Avenue, just east of Maple Island Road.  The "dump card" provides for a limited number of discounted trips to the landfill per calendar year.  Residents of Laketon Township must stop in to the Laketon Township Hall to obtain the "dump card".  Each household is limited to one "dump card" per calendar year.

In addition to the discount card, Laketon Township is pleased to offer a completely FREE Clean Up Day to Laketon Township Residents ONLY!  This day is able to be offered ONLY when the Muskegon County Board of Commissioners waives the landfill fees for the municipality for the one day.  This day is held in the spring each year, typically either late April or early May.  Please call the office for current information on the event date/time.  231-744-2454.

Township Parks
Picnic Areas, Athletic Fields & Playgrounds:

Picnic Shelters - SINCE January 1, 2011  A RESERVATION POLICY & RENTAL COSTS FOR USE OF ALL LAKETON TOWNSHIP PICNIC SHELTERS WAS IMPLEMENTED.  Click Here for the Parks & Rec page, which includes the reservation policy, costs & forms.

Restrooms/Port-a-jons - There are bathroom buildings located at all but Green Creek Park, which may or not be open, but there are always port-a-jons available at all parks when they are considered OPEN for the season, which is typically April - October but may vary each year depending on the weather.  During the season, all parks open at 8:00 am and close at dusk.

Athletic fields - baseball diamonds, soccer fields, football fields are used regularly by organized youth sports clubs, but can be used by anyone.  If you would like to use the fields for an organized event, please contact the Laketon Township Supervisor for more information.  Twp Hall phone 231-744-2454.

Playgrounds - the playgrounds are for the enjoyment of all children, please be respectful of the equipment.  

Walking path - there is a paved walking path around the Lange Baseball Complex that is approximately 1/2 mile around.  Along this path and in this area are doggie clean-up stations with bags for removing dog waste.  If you bring your dog for some exercise, please be a responsible pet owner and remove the waste and dispose of it properly. Remember, all dogs must be on a leash.

Important notice about DOGS: signs are located in the park indicating areas where dogs are not permitted - such as athletic fields and playgrounds. Dogs are permitted in other areas of the parks, including the walking path - please be courteous and clean up after your pet.  The parks are your parks, please help to preserve them by following established rules for everyone's  safety and enjoyment of the parks.
